Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of New York, has announced the largest permanent artwork ever commissioned for Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in its 146-year history. The new 25-foot painting, created by American artist Adam Cvijanovic, will transform the three walls of the Fifth Avenue entrance vestibule into a sweeping vision of sacred and secular history. Titled “What’s So Funny About Peace, Love, and Understanding,” the mural depicts historic, contemporary, and eternal figures in Cvijanovic’s realistic style. It honors the Apparition at Knock, celebrates the faith of immigrant communities, and pays tribute to New York City’s first responders. The dedication Mass will take place on Sunday, September 21, 2025.
